After the underground railway of Kaohsiung City is open to traffic, it will remove 7 level crossings and 16 intersections between railway and highway, and save the time for road users to wait for the train pass by. In addition to underground the existing Zuoying, Kaohsiung and Fengshan Stations, 7 Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) stations have been build which combined with the Kaohsiung City Light Rail System (in the Fine Art Museum Station, Gushan Station and Science and Technology Museum Station), MRT (Co-constructed Kaohsiung Station) and high-speed rail will form a transit network with both MRT and medium-long transit while connecting urban development along the railway to demonstrate the evolution of Kaohsiung's 100-years of culture and history. Besides, the operation of this project can complement transportation services for Kaohsiung-Pingtung area.
